Zooey Deschanel and boyfriend Jonathan Scott looked like they couldn’t be prouder as they unveiled their newly renovated home for his Drew + Jonathan Reveal magazine on Wednesday.

The gorgeous Los Angeles home was originally built by famed architect Gerard Colcord in 1938, and the 42-year-old New Girl star and 44-year-old Property Brothers star, who co-runs the magazine with his twin brother Drew, have given it a thorough update inside and outside.

“This is a home that suits our tastes and needs both aesthetically and functionally,” said Zooey appreciatively.

Zooey and Jonathan bought the home in June 2020 at the height of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and embarked on some intense restorations and changes over the next two years.

The two have been dating since August 2019 and had a fateful first meeting when she met him in a sibling episode of Carpool Karaoke, which also starred his brother Drew and her older sister Emily Deschanel.

The couple took a long time to announce the purchase, as Jonathan only revealed in January this year that the couple had found their “eternal home”.

It was love at first sight for Zooey, who said, “As soon as we pulled into the driveway, we knew this house was something special.”

The classic home features spacious five bedrooms and is located in the trendy Brentwood area of Los Angeles, home to a number of Hollywood stars.

“It was a beautiful house with a lot of history,” Jonathan said appreciatively.

The couple appreciated the traditional Georgian Revival style, although renovations over the years had added mismatched modern touches that didn’t quite go together.

“With two irregular additions in the ’70s and ’80s, the house no longer functioned well by today’s standards,” Jonathan said, and he and Zooey set out to “preserve” the style of Colcord, who was a traditionalist, even into 1938. . norms.

But the renovations have not only brought the rest of the house in line with the original design, but also updated it to make the house much more efficient.

The couple installed Tesla roof tiles to generate electricity from the abundant sun, which is then stored in a large battery system.

Nine smart panels throughout the home monitor the energy use of all electrical devices, and the plumbing system features a gray water recycling system that reuses water from the showers and sinks for toilets and even outdoor irrigation.

“This isn’t just a smart home,” the HGTV star boasted. “It’s an awesome one.”

The outside of the house had wood paneling that didn’t meet fire codes, so Jonathan replaced it with brick and also covered the house with fireproof material, which would also insulate it better.

“It still looks like it could be a 100-year-old house, but it’s now LEED certified and will end up using less grid energy than a small apartment,” he added.

While he worked on the exterior, Zooey made sure the interior was decorated with “total tiling and upholstery.”

The home has an international flair through the use of Portuguese tiles and Moroccan fabrics contrasting with the tasteful white walls.

She also made sure there was plenty of “prep space” in the kitchen, which was decorated with pretty green cabinets and what Jonathan joked was “the biggest island ever built” with a tasteful white granite countertop.

The All The Real Girls actress applauded her partner for his ability to restore the house to its former glory.

“Jonathan is so amazing at figuring this out. He’s been doing this for his clients for so long, and now he’s done it for us and our family.”

Her family seemed particularly fond of the home’s expansive garden, which was adorned with a 60-year-old rose garden and beautiful plane trees.

“When we brought the kids here they said, ‘Do we live in a park?'” says Jonathan, so they appropriately decided to name their new home Park House.

Zooey and Jonathan seemed relieved to have finished their dream home after spending so much time getting it just right.

“It was really convenient for both of us,” says Zooey. ‘Many Saturdays we sat looking for the right touches to add to this home.’
