YPFB tends to use gas efficiently to… BNamericas

YPFB Statement

La Paz, Feb 12 (AN/YPFB) – YPFB Executive President Armin Dorgathen Tapia said today that Supreme Decree 4794, which sets the natural gas subsidy for the industrial sector, seeks efficiency in the use of this natural resource, in the perspective of reaching the largest number of gas consumers at home in the nine departments of the country.

“This natural gas, saved through the efficient use of this resource, will reach the rest of Bolivians. YPFB works every day to expand our networks, our connections, so that they reach all communities,” the executive of the state oil company said in an interview with Bolivia TV.

Dorgathen added that the goal is for the gas to reach the largest possible number of Bolivian citizens, scattered throughout the national territory, “rather than remaining in the hands of a few Bolivians who are inefficiently profiting from this resource.”

The board of the state oil company commented on the issue after hearing comments from the industrial sector on DS 4794, an instrument that guarantees gas supplies to the industrial sector and ensures energy price stability, which has been frozen for more than 5 years.

Armin Dorgathen also advocated efficient use of natural gas in order to protect the environment. “The importance of this supreme decree is to use gas efficiently with a low carbon footprint, which allows us to respect the environment and use renewable energy. (…) It is important to talk about the carbon footprint, the world today uses as little coal as possible and the same industries are trying to convert their power generation systems to renewable energy.”

“The goal is not to eliminate the subsidy for electricity generation, but to avoid self-generation because it is inefficient. When we use natural gas to generate electricity, we require three times more energy than we use when we connect to the National Integrated System. We will have much more efficient heat generation than home generation, as well as solar panels, wind power and hydroelectric power; So we will use less gas, we will produce less carbon dioxide, but we will still have a favorable tariff for the industry,” added the President of YPFB.
