You lose your suitcase at the airport and track your journey with an AirTag Beacon

Apple AirTags, these miniature geolocation beacons that can be hung on luggage, keys or a wallet, were launched by the American company Apple in April 2021. Complaints about spying on these small objects have multiplied for a year until Apple was forced to update them.

But an AirTag device played a part in a startling lost suitcase story, reports AppleInsider, relayed by Phonandroid, Wednesday, August 17, 2022.

In a TikTok video posted July 27 and viewed more than 885,000 times, a Canadian couple recounted how one of their bags had traveled without them during their stay in Portugal. Upon departure from Toronto Airport, this suitcase had been reported lost while being processed at the baggage center. But thanks to the AirTag beacon that was there, the couple was able to track their journey.

A tour of Portugal

First of all, despite everything, the suitcase was able to leave for Portugal like its owners. It then passed through a baggage depot in five days before being located further north in the Leiria area. The luggage then passed through Lisbon before returning again to a warehouse and then a processing structure near the Straw Sea near Lisbon.

After this final stop, the suitcase was simply shipped back to Toronto Airport for the couple to collect. Luckily nothing was missing inside. “The luggage had its own holiday” quipped one user in a comment that has been liked more than 8,000 times.
