The New York Yankees will likely go without one of their key midseason acquisitions for some time.

Matt Carpenter walked out of Monday’s game against the Seattle Mariners with a fractured left foot during the team’s 9-4 win. He fouled a pitch from Logan Gilbert with his foot.

Carpenter was spotted in a boot and on crutches in the dressing room.

“I don’t want to give a number [of how long I could be out]because I just don’t know,” Carpenter said via MLB.com. “But I’m hoping there will be a situation where I can come back and contribute to the track running in mid-September.

“So we’ll see. I mean, that’s my mindset…that I’ll be back. I won’t let my mind go anywhere else I don’t want to. I won’t even accept the fact that it will be for me.”

Carpenter joined the Yankees on May 26 after being fired by the Texas Rangers.

He immediately embarked on a hot streak in a limited role to begin his tenure in the Bronx. Going into play on Monday, he batted .305 with 1.138 OPS in 47 games. He had 15 home runs and 47 RBI.

“He’s just become such an important factor in this room,” said Yankees manager Aaron Boone. “And everyone loves him. So it’s a hit, but hopefully we’ll get it back at some point.”
