PEOPLE – Khaby Lame, the world’s most visited Tiktoker, became an Italian citizen this Wednesday, August 17, reports media La Repubblica. “I swear to be loyal to the Republic and to respect the Constitution and the laws of the State,” he swore to the official of the municipality of Chivasso, where he grew up.

Khaby Lame, who is registered as Khabane Serigne Lame, later said in a video released by City Hall: “I am very proud. I’ve felt famous before because I grew up here. However, I feel very responsible for the oath I have taken, these are not words to the wind.”

Until today, Khaby Lame was a Senegalese national. “I grew up in the HLM in Via Togliatti, in Chivasso, where we were happy even if we didn’t have anything, I haven’t gotten used to success yet,” he said after the session ceremony.

“I speak a universal language”

The Tiktoker released its first video in March 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic after being laid off from its Turin factory. He is known for his TikToks, in which he pokes fun at “life hack” videos that complicate life more than anything, thanks to his famous hand gestures that made him famous.

The 22-year-old influencer is modeled after Will Smith, Eddie Murphy and Mister Bean, the character played by Rowan Atkinson, who also built his popularity without saying a single word. “I speak a universal language that everyone understands,” he told Forbes last March.

A real internet star, he was notably a juror at the Cannes Film Festival in the TikTok section, after the social network became the official partner of the festival.
