World Junior Jockey Championship: Canada finishes first in Group A

Team Canada Junior finished their World Junior Hockey Championship preliminary round atop Group A with a fourth win in as many games, this time by a 6-3 score on Monday in Edmonton.

The Canadians were leading 5-1 after 40 minutes and kept the Finns’ hopes alive with several penalties. Will Cuylle was also kicked out of the game after receiving a large penalty for suffering a knee injury, on top of an in-game misconduct. Donovan Sebrango, Ethan del Mastro and William Dufour also all received small penalties but on those occasions the Scandinavian country’s representatives only featured once through Roby Jarventie.

Prior to that more difficult third period, the Canadians had dominated the rest of the game, scoring the first three goals of the first period. Brennan Othmann, Tyson Foerster and Connor Bedard all flashed at the red light.

Ridly Greig and Mason McTavish added in the second half while William Dufour completed the goal in an empty net.

Samuel Helenius in the first period and Joakim Kemell in the final period were the other scorers for Finland, who beat Canadian goalkeeper Dylan Garand three times in 25 shots
