Just over 223,000 people who have cable television watched President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT)’s interview with GloboNews this Wednesday evening (18). According to previous data from Kantar Ibope, this number gave the Globo network a 96% larger audience than the combined total of competing news channels at the time CNN Brasil, Jovem Pan, Band News and Record News.
Speaking to journalist Natuza Nery on the TV news program Edition at 6 p.m., Lula explained that the federal government’s intelligence system “didn’t exist” on the 8th, when the Three Powers headquarters was raided and vandalized by Three Powers supporters. ExPresident Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
The Prime Minister said he saw the acts of vandalism as “the beginning of a coup d’état” and said that members of the armed forces who wanted to engage in politics should take off their uniforms and resign from office.
“As long as they serve the Bundeswehr, the Attorney General of the Union, the public prosecutor’s office, these people cannot engage in politics. They simply have to fulfill their constitutional function,” he explained.
The interview, held at the Planalto Palace, was the first given by the President to a television network after his election.
