The scandal came after Chris Rock commented during the awards ceremony, referring to Jada Pinkett’s alopecia. His words sparked the dissatisfaction of Will Smith, who didn’t hesitate to get up from his chair and punch the comedian.
As a result, Smith was suspended from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences last April and will not be able to attend any of their events for 10 years.
Despite being coy about what happened, the actor has apologized to Chris Rock in recent weeks and it seems he’s looking to put the hustle and bustle behind as he’s once again taking public photos with his partner over lunch at Nobu Sushi of Pacific became Coast Highway, in Malibu, California (USA).
On the other hand, the protagonists of the events, both the actor and the comedian, have already spoken about the controversy.
For his part, Smith said in a video that he felt “like shit” and said he’s already tried to contact Rock. “I reached out to Chris and the message he got back to me is that he’s not ready to talk and if he is he will. So I’ll tell you Chris, I apologize. My behavior was unacceptable and I’ll be here if you’re ready to talk.”
He said at the time he “didn’t think about how many people got hurt” and specifically apologized to the actor’s mother and brother, Tony Rock, with whom he had “a great relationship.” “It was one of my own and that’s probably irreparable,” he added.
For his part, Chris Rock, while not addressing Smith directly, said the following during his “Chris Rock Ego Death World Tour,” “Anyone who says words hurt has never been slapped in the face.”
And he assured that “everybody tries to be a fucking victim”.
“If everyone claims to be a victim, then no one listens to the real victims. Even I got a slap in the face from Suge Smith (…) I went to work the next day, I have kids,” he added.
