Whoopi Goldberg clapped back at a cheeky viewer who called her an “old bride” on live TV on Wednesday.

The 67-year-old co-host of ABC’s long-running talk show The View replied: “Did you just call me an ‘old bride’? Yes.’

The long-running Hollywood game continued, “She said, ‘Dog,’ and I said, ‘Hey, it’s Wednesday, and I’m a doggy and happy about it!’

The confrontation erupted at the head of the show as the five presenters – Goldberg, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar and Alyssa Farah Griffin – took their places.

The camera then showed two masked bystanders concentrating on one wearing a dark fur hat and glasses.

Hostin chimed in to note that being an elderly person is better than being a deceased person.

“The alternative doesn’t appeal to any of us,” Goldberg added. “We all want to be old women and old guys, you know?”

Earlier this month, Whoopi, who is set to return to screens for a third installment in the Sister Act franchise after 30 years, challenged her former co-star Dame Maggie Smith to reprise her role as well.

The actress and TV personality admitted she “just can’t pull it off” for anyone other than Maggie to take on the character of Mother Superior when discussing the new film.

Speaking to Loose Women’s Judi Love, Whoopi was asked about plans for the third installment, which Disney+ confirmed in 2020.

She explained, “You know, one of the things I want to make sure of while I’m here is … I want to let Maggie Smith know that I’m taking on the role of Mother Superior for you [Maggie].

“Because I can’t do it with anyone but you. So if you need me, I’ll come here [to England] and shoot and do whatever we have to do, we’ll do whatever you want, but we don’t want to do it without you.’

It’s not the first time Whoopi – real name Caryn Elaine Johnson – has reached out to her former co-star when she pleaded the same during an appearance on The One Show last year.
