White Sox minor-league contender Anderson Comas comes out as gay: ‘I want to be an inspiration’

White Sox minor-league contender Anderson Comas is coming out as gay… posting the revelation on Instagram because I want to be an inspiration to people like me.

Chicago White Sox minor league pitcher Anderson Comas has come out as gay in a post on Instagram.

Comas – an outfielder who switched to pitcher in 2022 – said he is doing so to inspire others who share his situation.

‘Disclaimer: If you are homophobic this post may not be for you or Maby [sic] Yes so you can see that we all matter and we are all equal,” Comas’ post began.

“This may be my most personal thing to ever share and I’m proud and happy to be part of the LGTBQ+ community.

“I’m also a person with a big soul, I’m respectful, I’m a lover, I love my family and friends and that’s what really matters, I really enjoy my job

“Being a professional baseball player is the best thing that has ever happened to me, so I just want to say something to these people that says gay people can’t be anybody in this life

“Look at me, I’m gay and I’m a professional athlete so that hasn’t stopped me from making my dreams come true

“I’m doing this because I want to be an inspiration to people like me out there that fit their dreams. Please don’t listen to these stupid things people say about us, fight for your dreams, believe in yourself and do it.’

The White Sox released a statement on their Twitter account supporting Comas’ decision and who he is.

“Anderson first shared his news with us last year,” White Sox assistant GM Chris Getz said in a statement. “And I was very pleased that he was happy to share with us in player development.

“I was also pleased with the response from across the organization which, as you might expect, was to support, help and congratulate a teammate.

“With his social media post today, we are all so proud of Anderson and that he is so open in sharing such an important personal part of his life.”

Chicago signed the Dominican Republic-born Comas to a minor-league contract in 2016 and he’s spent most of his time playing in rookie leagues — he’s been promoted to single-A-ball.

He transitioned from an outfielder to a backup pitcher in the 2022 season — he played in 11 games in the Arizona Complex League.

Solomon Bates — a pitcher in the San Francisco Giants system — also came out as gay last season and is currently the only other active MiLB player to have come out.

The first openly gay player in minor league baseball was former Milwaukee Brewers player David Denson – who came out in 2015.

No active Major League Baseball player has come out. However, former MLB players Billy Bean and Glenn Burke both came out after their playing careers ended.

Late last year, former Cleveland Guardians pitcher TJ House came out as he announced his engagement.
