Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for the Outaouais and areas of the St. Lawrence River Valley, Estrie and Beauce to the tip of Gaspé and far northeastern Quebec.

In the Montreal area, the first snowflakes begin to fall in the early evening, but precipitation should lessen in intensity throughout the day on Thursday, when snow has left accumulations of 15 to 25 centimeters on the ground.

Morning rush hour will be difficult on metro Quebec’s roads on Thursday due to heavy snowfall and blowing snow that is sure to bring moderate winds at times.

The Quebec, Mauricie and Beauce region will also receive plenty of snow, accompanied by strong winds of 60 km/h with blowing snow, which will make traveling on the roads difficult, the federal agency warns.

The situation will be more complicated in the eastern part of the province, where the winter storm warning is in effect, when accumulations of 30 centimeters of snow will be accompanied by strong winds gusting to 70 km/h on Thursday.
