What happened to Willy Serrato, the club that surprised the world with the Manchester City crest?

Changes of name, crest and location have been constants for Willy Serrato throughout his stint through professionalism, in addition to the disastrous mark of being the most beaten team in Peruvian football history.

Almost a decade, nine years to be exact, a Peruvian team caught the world’s attention. Willy Serrato was invited to play it Second division 2014 and made news for having a shield identical to that of Manchester City at the time. However, the fate of both paintings, united by the same coat of arms, could not have been more different and we will tell you about them in this note.

Passing through the second division

Willy Serrato was invited to the second division in 2014 after a more than acceptable campaign at the 2013 Copa Peru. In this competition he reached the semi-finals but was eliminated by Unión Huaral, the runner-up of that edition. In their first season, the cast from Olmos placed a respectable fifth.

However, in 2015, the Willysta cast would merge with the Sport Chavelines Junior by Pacasmayo, place to which they relocated. As a result of this union, the Olmos squad began using the Pacasmayino team’s shield and jersey. The name change to Serrato Chavelines could not be completed. This year they would finish fifth again.

the beginning of the end

In 2016, the club no longer belonged to the Sport Chavelines sports group and was again managed by Willy Serrato. For this season, he modified the shield to one related to the province. This year, after a rather irregular start, he was able to save defeat without any problems. The following year it was renamed Serrato Pacasmayo.

Despite a certain identification with the city, the team had a poor season in 2017, placing in twelfth field, just two places from relegation. All of this got even worse in 2018 as the club faced serious financial problems. With unpaid players and sometimes without reaching the starting lineup, Serrato Pacasmayo was relegated to the Copa Perú.

In the 2018 season, Pacasmayo’s team played 28 games, winning only two, drawing four and losing 22. As if that wasn’t enough, they scored 23 goals and conceded 115, making it the worst goal tally in the entire history of Pacasmayo professional football . . For example, Serrato Pacasmayo was relegated to the departmental level of the 2019 Copa Perú, a tournament he did not participate in due to debts.
