West Bank: Italian activist arrested in Bethlehem ANSA news agency

(ANSA) – TEL AVIV, JAN 16 – An Italian citizen, Stefania Costantini, in her 50s, was arrested this morning at the Dheisheh refugee camp in Bethlehem in the West Bank during an operation by the Israeli army. Based on what is known so far, the reasons why she was stopped are not clear at this time. The Italian diplomatic authorities, the consulate in Jerusalem and the embassy in Israel are following the case.

Local sources, quoted by the Palestinian news agency Wafa, reported that “Israeli soldiers broke into the home of Palestinian journalist Nidal Abu Aker, beat his son, who had just undergone surgery, and interrogated his wife.” The soldiers, Wafa continued, also broke into the home of Abu Aker’s elderly mother, where they found and arrested the activist.
