Wendy Gaye is seeking a domestic violence restraining order against Marvin Gaye III following his arrest

Marvin Gaye III’s wife on Tuesday filed for a domestic violence restraining order against him after he was arrested for allegedly pointing a gun at her.

Wendy Gaye sought court-ordered protection from Gaye, 57, after an alleged altercation last week, according to a Tuesday TMZ article.

The R&B/Soul legend’s adopted son was accused during an argument Thursday of pointing a gun at his cousin during an argument with the family member and Wendy at his home in Calabasas, California.

TMZ previously reported that the violence against the two women stemmed from an argument over a previous attack.

A source also told the publication that Marvin and Wendy’s marriage has been rocky and the two “have been having ongoing issues for a while.”

Reportedly, Gaye “came to the sheriff’s office around 5:00 p.m. the next day and turned himself in.”

He was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapons charge, but posted $50,000 bail and was released.

An emergency containment order was issued to keep Gaye away from the home, and family members and law enforcement officers returned to the residence and recovered two firearms.

Family attorney Gil Arbel said his clients were “disturbed” and “intend to cooperate fully with law enforcement in bringing charges.”

When officers arrived Thursday, they believed Gaye was still inside and asked him to come outside before neighbors told them Gaye had left.

Officers then reportedly met with Gaye’s relatives and took an “assault report” identifying Gaye as a suspect. It is not known if anyone was injured.

Gaye III is the adopted son of legendary singer Marvin Gaye and his wife Anna Gordy Gaye – the couple were married from 1963 to 1977.

The singer was shot dead by his own father in 1984 at the age of 44, while Anna, 17 years his senior, died in 2014 at the age of 92.

Gaye III’s birth mother is Denise Gordy, niece of Anna. Denise gave birth to Gaye III when she was just 16 years old.

Denise has previously said that she agreed to give birth to the child because her aunt was unable to conceive.

Gaye married his second wife, Janice, in 1977 and they had two children, daughter Nona and son Frankie.

Gaye III has largely kept out of the public eye, but announced in 2013 that he was suffering from kidney failure and was seeking a donated organ for a transplant.

He revealed that he had been on dialysis for three years due to kidney failure and was having trouble finding a suitable kidney for transplant.

He publicly shared his condition to draw attention to the challenges blacks and Hispanics face in finding healthy organ donors.

In 2015, Marvin Gaye’s family won a lawsuit against Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams for infringing his copyright on their song Blurred Lines.

Williams and Thicke were fined $7.4 million in a landmark copyright case in which a judge ruled their composition violated Gaye’s copyright for the track “Got to Give it Up.”
