Washington Mayor Charged With Sexual Abuse – KCRG

WASHINGTON, Iowa (KCRG) – Jaron Rosien, the mayor of the city of Washington, has been charged following a Jan. 8 incident.

On Jan. 11, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) conducted an interview with a 27-year-old man who claimed he was sexually assaulted by Rosien at a bar on Jan. 8. Iowa DCI obtained a search warrant on Jan. 12 on the bar’s internal security surveillance footage.

Investigators say footage from the bar shows a person believed to be Rosien approaching the victim around 1:39 a.m. The footage shows the person having sexual contact with the victim multiple times.

According to the criminal complaint, Rosien told officers he had been “flirtatious” with a person matching the victim’s description, but that he could not recall specific incidents due to his own intoxication.

Rosien was charged with third degree sexual abuse.

In response to the allegations, he released the following statement:

“I take these allegations very seriously. I take this job, its responsibilities and those who rely on me to carry them out very seriously. For that reason, I will respectfully step away from the formal role to focus on what is required. During this time, I am thinking of my family, friends and community and want to thank them for their support.”

Millie Younquist will serve as mayor during this time. She released the following statement:

“I’m stepping in to lead the next meetings. He will continue to work in the background. I have full confidence that he is doing his job.”
