Ukraine, light tanks from France delivered this week
AMX-10 light main battle tanks will be delivered to Ukraine “from the end of next week”, French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu said in an interview with the newspaper “Le Parisien”, without specifying the number of vehicles in question. The deliveries coincide with the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. In early January, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the decision to send the light tanks to Ukraine as part of NATO’s increase in arms supplies, without specifying the amount: “I take responsibility for not disclosing the number – Lecornu now specified – not to give strategic information to Russia”. Instead, the minister specified that the training of the Ukrainians in handling the new vehicles is “close to completion” and that the tanks are therefore about to be delivered.
