Stepping off the train in Kyiv, the French President sent Ukrainians a “message of European unity to be able to hold planned talks with President Zelenskyy”. The head of state underlined this “important moment” and reiterated Europe’s “support” “both on the Talking about the present as well as about the future, because the coming weeks will be very difficult”.

This repeatedly mentioned visit was repeatedly postponed. These three European leaders are among the latest to visit Ukraine. Emmanuel Macron traveled to Kyiv on February 8, before the war that was declared on February 24 began.

The aim is therefore to go beyond the long-awaited handshake with the Ukrainian President to make progress in Ukraine’s application for membership of the European Union. It may also be about announcing new deliveries of arms, the France Inter journalist indicates.
