Britain’s defense secretary announced on Thursday that it would send new military aid to Ukraine.

“Today I can say that we are also planning to send another 600 Brimstone missiles to the theater of operations, which is extremely important to help Ukraine…” Ben Wallace said Thursday after meeting Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur, reports Sky News.

The Brimstone is a British air-to-surface anti-tank missile originally manufactured by MBDA for the Royal Air Force. It is equipped with laser guidance and millimeter radar to make it more effective against moving targets. Its maximum range for its upgraded version of an airplane is about 60km.

100 armored vehicles

The British defense secretary also believes that the conflict in Ukraine will be long and that NATO countries should stand ready to support military aid for years to come.

Earlier this week, Ben Wallace announced that 100 armored vehicles, £20m worth of mine clearance and bridge-building equipment and dozens of drones for Ukrainian artillery would be delivered to Kyiv.

100,000 shells

Wallace said the new British support program includes 100,000 additional artillery shells, more than 100 advanced missiles including the GMLRS family of missiles, Starstreak SAMs, medium-range air defense missiles, eight AS-90 self-propelled guns and a promised squadron of Challenger 2 tanks and spare parts for them the repair of armored vehicles.

This British aid is part of a series of January 19 announcements of arms deliveries by NATO countries.

The Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation said that the countries of the Atlantic Alliance are “playing with fire” by supplying arms to Ukraine.
