Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will address the entire U.S. Congress virtually on Wednesday at 13:00 GMT, Democratic representatives in the House and Senate said on Monday (March 14).

“We are pleased to welcome President Zelensky to address the House of Representatives and the Senate and express our support for the Ukrainian people who courageously defend democracy,” Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer said in a letter to elected officials. Many Democrats and Republicans in Congress are calling on Joe Biden to step up his response to Moscow in response to the invasion of Ukraine.
Last week, in a rare burst of unity, elected officials passed a staggering nearly $14 billion package for the Ukraine crisis. These funds, among other things, should allow Ukraine to protect its electricity grid, fight cyber attacks and arm itself with defensive weapons. The package also includes more than $2.6 billion in humanitarian aid and more than $1 billion to support refugees fleeing the war-torn country.

The Ukrainian president already exchanged via videoconference on March 5 with more than a hundred elected officials and US senators, advocating the supply of Soviet-made aircraft to Ukraine and tougher economic sanctions against Russia.
