Attention, these pictures can disturb. In a video published by CNN on Thursday, May 12, two Russian soldiers shoot two unarmed Ukrainian civilians in the back at a car dealership on the road to Kyiv. The scene was caught by surveillance cameras on March 16, early in the war, as the Russian army attempted to advance towards the Ukrainian capital, a goal that has since been abandoned.

The two men identified as the owners and administrators of this concession are dead. The American broadcaster has collected testimony from his daughter, who is calling for the perpetrators of what appears to be a war crime to be brought to justice. “I can’t watch [la vidéo]. I will keep it and leave it to my children and grandchildren to remember who our neighbors are,” said Julia Plyats.
These revelations come as Ukraine announced it would try the first Russian war crime against a 21-year-old soldier accused of shooting dead an unarmed civilian with a Kalashnikov, without disclosing the date of the trial. At the United Nations, the country attacked by Russia on February 24 recalled the “endless list” of human rights abuses committed by Russian troops during an extraordinary session of the Human Rights Council.
