At Barreto Campelo Penitentiary, a maximum security prison in Itamaracá, in the Recife metropolitan area, inmates were engaged in a “duel” with machetes. Videotaped, the fight was followed by the other prisoners. Some shouted, “Just you two” (see video above).
According to the government of Pernambuco, the fight with machetes took place on Sunday (14th). The images were published on social networks and reached WhatsApp TV globe This Thursday (18th)

In just over a minute and a half, the video shows a sequence of the fight in the courtyard of Barreto Campelo, where 1,200 men live. Most are serving sentences already set by the judiciary.

In the beginning it is possible to follow the movement in the prison yard. One of the combatants appears in white shorts and shirtless, with a machete in hand.
He makes moves like in a boxing match and approaches his opponent, who is shirtless and wearing colorful shorts.
As the inmate in white shorts goes up, the other defends himself with a machete. In a section of the video, a metallic sound can be heard as the two weapons touch.
The two move around the yard and are joined by the other inmates. Some run to approach the mess. The two are briefly separated.
However, the prisoner in white shorts points his machete in the air. The prisoner in the colored shorts approaches, gun in hand.
The two return to the duel in another area of the unit’s yard, very close to where the battle started.

The video was sent to WhatsApp TV globe ends with the two prisoners involved in the fight moving out of sight of whoever was filming.
One can see how the inmates accompanying the “duel” walked around in the midst of many dogs that barked continuously.
In a note this Thursday, the Executive Secretariat for Rehabilitation (SERES) reported that those “involved in the images have been identified and the bladed weapons confiscated.”
The Pernambuco government also announced that administrative disciplinary proceedings had been launched over the fighting.
Seres did not give the names of the prisoners who took part in the fight, nor did she say if anyone was injured.
The video shows a machete fight between two inmates at Complexo do Curado
This is not the first episode of machete fighting in prisons in Pernambuco. In 2016, a video captured the fight between inmates of the Juiz Antônio Luís Lins de Barros (PJALLB) prison in Complexo do Curado, in the western zone of Recife. (see video above).
The case took place in Pavilion P of the PJALLB. Cheers can be heard in the images as two inmates, one in shorts and the other in a green shirt, “duel”.
The naked man fought with two machetes in his hands. Other prisoners also carried the same types of weapons as they watched the fight.
