This decision comes as the Chinese health authorities have been pursuing a particularly strict and rigorous policy in the fight against the corona virus for several months.

A new wave of Covid-19 in Hainan province

A new wave of Covid-19 has been raging in the Chinese province of Hainan since August 1, 2022. Over 14,000 cases have been detected. Health authorities have therefore decided to tighten the screw by targeting fish and shellfish suspected of transmitting the virus to fishermen.

“We test people and at the same time what they have caught,” an official with Xiamen City’s Ocean Development Office told the South China Morning Post on Thursday. Videos of tests performed on fish and other crustaceans have gone viral.
