The murder of a 29yearold black man in the city of Memphis, Tennessee, USA, by five black police officers, sparked a worldwide outcry and revolt. Tire Nichols was brutally beaten by agents on the 7th of this month and was hospitalized until the 10th when he died. Images from cameras attached to police uniforms and others captured by surveillance circles have only now been released.

One of the images shows the young man, who was an employee of delivery giant FedEx, being punched and kicked in the head and all over his body, and also receiving electrical discharges fired from a Taser gun, while frantically screaming for his mother . Tire was in a car 70 meters from home.

His executioners, identified as Demetrius Haley, Desmond Mills, Jr., Emmitt Martin III, Justin Smith, and Tadarrius Bean, according to the version they presented to their superiors and the judiciary, stopped Tire “on suspicion of reckless driving,” but so far the alleged infringement has not been proven. They were fired from the Memphis Police Department by the city’s mayor, Democrat Jim Strickland.

Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis called the actions of her subordinates “despicable, inconsiderate and inhumane” and even made the case for US President Joe Biden, who said in a statement to the press: “As did many others I was outraged and deeply saddened to see the horrific videotape of the beating that resulted in the death of Tire Nichols.”

This Saturday afternoon, numerous demonstrations in several US cities and in Memphis, the scene of the brutal crime, looting and shops were recorded.

The officers now face four separate felonies: seconddegree murder, aggravated assault, misconduct and suppression of office, although their attorneys have revealed their clients have pleaded not guilty.
