“I’m very proud of Laurence and of the work she’s done,” her mother, Louise Lagarde, said in an interview with TVA Nouvelles. It was definitely an exciting night. I listened to the race with my son on FaceTime. It was the screams, the tears, the excitement. It makes me happy to see her race when I see her smile when she arrives, especially when she has such a great race. It’s really nice for a mother.”

“She has been with the Canada team for several years and has worked hard to achieve her goal,” she added.

Quebec Premier François Legault congratulated the 28-year-old athlete in a post on Twitter.

“I’m glad to be stressed”

Laurence St-Germain will go down in history as it is Canada’s first gold medal in women’s slalom since 1960. Anne Heggtveit won gold in slalom back then.

The key player stoked the pressure. This enabled him to overtake the American Mikaela Shiffrin.

“I’ve worked hard over the last two weeks,” said Laurence St-Germain. I trusted my ski and didn’t think about the result and it worked […]. [Vendredi] In the evening I was really stressed. I didn’t sleep well, but I was glad to be stressed because I knew it would help.”
