The animated series “Doug” originally premiered in 1991. It accompanies a young man of the same name who has to face the trials and tribulations of the prepubescent period, while he experiences great adventures together with his friends and, with the help of his diary, fantasizes that he is actually a superhero.

It was created by Jim Jinkins and David Ray Campbell and originally aired on Nickelodeon and ABC. When broadcast on open television via TV Cultura, SBT and Band, the cartoon was a huge hit among young people born in the 90’s.

The series was produced by Jinkins Production Company and Jumbo Pictures, Inc. and resulted in a book called Doug Gets a New Pair of Shoes. From 1991 it was produced by Nickelodeon.

The main character’s name was coined by Jinkins after his godson, Doug Eckhardt, became the dean of historical art at the University of Pennsylvania. The whole superhero idea came from the creator’s own childhood.

In the storyline, Doug is 12.5 years old and lives with his mother, father, sister and dog named Costelinha. In a diary he tells of his joys, worries and doubts. The boy is in love with Patti mayonnaise.
