Vehicle theft: Quebec police arrest suspects

Two young men attempting to seize a vehicle in Quebec on Tuesday night were caught red-handed by police officers who put their hands on their collars.

The event happened around 3:15 a.m. on Boulevard la Morille, near Rue du Mesnil, in the Lebourgneuf sector.

Police officers from the Service de Police de la Ville de Québec (SPVQ) patrolling the area then saw three men gathered around a Jeep Gladiator. But as they approached, the suspects fled and forced a foot pursuit.

“Thanks to the coordinated work of police at the scene, a dog handler was able to locate two suspects who were arrested for nighttime burglary and attempted vehicle theft,” said David Poitras, spokesman for the SPVQ.

Burglary tools were found at the scene and a vehicle used by the suspects was confiscated. The analysis of the Jeep Gladiator coveted by the thieves also revealed that its alarm system was overridden.

The two suspects, males aged 19 and 22 from outside the area, are being held pending their appearance later today. The second person also breached the terms and was suspected in another similar file.

Investigations are continuing to identify a third suspect who has still not been found, Mr Poitras said.
