The emergency services were called around 4:15 p.m. to a young child who was found unresponsive in a vehicle in a car park at a retirement home on Rue Querbes.

“Resuscitation maneuvers were attempted on the young child. He was transported to the hospital center where, unfortunately, his death was declared,” said Sergeant of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) Stéphane Tremblay.

The child would have remained in the vehicle indefinitely before being discovered. For the time being, the SQ has not specified who discovered the toddler in the car.

The SQ Major Crimes Unit is investigating the circumstances of the child’s death. However, Mr Tremblay clarifies that this does not necessarily mean that there is anything suspicious.

He explains that in the case of the death of a child under the age of 6, the investigation into the causes and circumstances is carried out automatically with the Serious Crime Department, and there is also a forensic medical investigation.

The investigation continues to clarify what may have led to this tragedy.
