Vanessa Hudgens ‘cries’ over ex Austin Butler’s viral Elvis Presley accent

On Thursday, Ryan Scott shared an Instagram post with a Page Six article about Butler’s viral cadence.

“He went to Lady Gaga acting school for Oscar campaigns,” Scott captioned the post, catching Hudgens’ attention.

“Crying,” the High School Musical alum wrote in the comments.

Scott apparently poked fun at the “Just Dance” singer’s Italian accent from the 2021 film House of Gucci, which many believed had an Eastern European flair.

Hudgens’ reaction came after the “Elvis” actor’s voice coach said his new accent could stay.

“What you saw in that speech at the Golden Globes, that’s him. It’s real, it’s not fake,” Irene Bartlett told ABC Gold Coast after Butler was tugged at in his acceptance speech for still sounding like the king of rock ‘n’ roll.

“I’m sorry people say that, you know, it’s still acting [but] he is indeed taken [the voice of Presley] on board.”

Hudgens, 34, and Butler, 31, had been together for nearly a decade, during which time the ‘Spring Breakers’ actor suggested to her then-boyfriend that they play Presley on screen.

“Last December we were driving along and we heard Christmas music and then there was an Elvis Presley Christmas carol,” Hudgens said during a 2019 appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan.

“He had just dyed his hair dark. He’s naturally blonde and I looked at him and he was singing along and I was like, ‘Babe, you gotta play Elvis.'”

Butler recently made headlines after calling Hudgens a “boyfriend” while retelling the story on ‘s Actors Roundtable earlier this month.

“The month before I heard that Baz [Luhrmann] was shooting the movie, I was going to see the Christmas lights with a friend, and there was an Elvis Christmas carol on the radio, and I was singing along, and my friend looked over at me and said, ‘You have to play Elvis.’ I said, ‘Oh ‘That’s so far-fetched,’” Butler recalled.

“A few weeks later I was playing the piano,” he continued.

“I never really sang for any of my friends or anything. The same friend was there and I played the piano. She said: “I’m serious. You have to figure out how to get the rights to a script.’ Then my agent called and said, ‘Well, Baz Luhrmann is doing an Elvis movie.’”

Butler and Hudgens were first linked in 2011 on the birthday of Ashley Tisdale’s sister, a former Disney Channel sister, and dated until January 2020.

Butler has since moved on with model Kaia Gerber, who celebrated with a hickey when he won the 2023 Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of the “Hound Dog” singer.

For her part, Hudgens has been in love with MLB star Cole Tucker since 2020.
