The agents showed the judge a search warrant as part of an investigation into the handling of presidential documents, including some confidential ones, that Trump may have kept at his Florida home, CNN reports, citing three well-informed sources. According to the Guardian, it would be a likely new reason for Trump’s violation of the federal law governing the management of White House documents.

The Justice Department has two investigations pending into the former president, one for attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and January 6, 2021, and the other for handling confidential documents. According to CNN, the FBI search focused on Trump’s private quarters and offices. A senior Trump-related source quoted by CBS News spoke of a “purely political” raid.
Trump’s son Eric told Fox News that “the purpose of the raid was to confirm whether Donald Trump had any documents believed to be in his possession.” Christina Bobb, Trump’s attorney, said the FBI did some documents confiscated. “President Trump and his legal team have worked with FBI and Justice Department officials at every step. The FBI conducted an unannounced raid and confiscated documents,” Bobb said.
