USA, African American man dies after arrest: Five agents fired

(ANSA) — WASHINGTON, JAN 20 — Five Memphis Police Department officers have been fired for “excessive use of force, failure to intervene and failure to provide assistance” following the arrest of a man who later died in hospital. The American media reports.

Tire Nichols, 29, of African American origin, was arrested on January 7 and died three days later. Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr. and Justin Smith, also black, were found guilty following an internal police investigation. The cause of death is not yet officially known, but the man who was pulled over for “reckless driving” complained of “difficulty breathing”. The family and several interest groups have called for the release of the videos captured by the officers’ body cams. (HAND).
