US urges Ukraine to commit nuclear crimes, Russia condemns

The Russian embassy in the United States today denounced Washington’s “irresponsible” rhetoric urging Ukraine to commit “crimes” that threaten to trigger a disaster at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

“The Kiev military continues to launch systematic attacks against the plant, using multiple rocket launchers, artillery and drones, all praised by Washington, which could provoke a disaster whose effects Europe would have to face for many decades,” the diplomatic unit explained on Telegram .

With these claims, the Russian diplomatic mission responded to statements by US State Department spokesman Ned Price, who stressed the day before that the White House “strongly condemns Russia’s reckless disregard for nuclear safety”.

Likewise, the spokesman called on Moscow to halt military activity near Ukraine’s nuclear facilities and return control of the Zaporozhye power plant to Kyiv, while accusing Russian troops of “coercing” the plant’s personnel.

In this regard, the Russian diplomats stated that in his comments, Price provided “no evidence” to support his allegations, while excluding Ukraine, which is “mainly responsible for what is happening”, from his speech.

“Apparently, Washington spurns blatant lies in its relentless attempts to denigrate our country,” the Russian officials said.

In this sense, they argued that the Ukrainian military is stepping up attacks on a daily basis. In total, they carried out 12 bombing raids on the nuclear power plant and the city of Energodar this Thursday, detonating more than 50 projectiles in these areas, in addition to hitting five kamikaze drones.

In that line, the Russian Embassy in Washington alluded to a report by the Eurasian nation’s Defense Ministry warning that troops from Kyiv will stage a provocation to create a radiation leak, breach the integrity of the nuclear waste site and destroy the reactor in an abnormal operating condition.

The aim of this action is to create an exclusion zone and to hold Russia responsible for nuclear terrorism, the military unit said the day before.
