HAVANA, 18 January (RHC) – Activists from the United States sent Cuba £40,000 in humanitarian aid for victims of Hurricane Ian, which destroyed infrastructure and homes in the western part of the island last September.

The shipment from the Port of Everglades, Florida will arrive at the Port of Mariel, Cuba and will include corrugated iron roofing, concrete, power plants, windows, plywood, drill bits and other essential items.

The donation is made possible through the collaboration of associations such as the ANSWER Coalition, the People’s Forum, the Hostosiano National Independence Movement of Puerto Rico, the Alianza Martiana, the Cuba-Western Sydney Solidarity Committee (Australia) and the Mexico Solidarity Network of the USA.

A press release from the Hatuey Project, which brings together several of these solidarity organizations with Cuba, indicates that this organization managed to obtain an export license from the Department of Commerce and had previously brought an emergency shipment of specialty medicines to the island for people affected by the fire of the Matanzas Supertanker Base burned on August 5th.
