The Gist She wanted to furnish her apartment more cheaply and discovered $36,000 buried in the cushions of a sofa that was being given away for free on a classifieds site.

A California woman was happily surprised to discover $36,000 in the cushions of a sofa given away for free on a classifieds site – but rushed to return the money to its owners.

Vicky Umodu wanted to furnish her new home for a small fee and was delighted to find this sofa. “I just moved in and I don’t have anything around the house,” she told local broadcaster ABC7 from her home in Colton, near Los Angeles. But when she got home, Ms. Umodu found a suspicious dent in one of the pillows: several cash-filled envelopes, each containing thousands of dollars.

She returned the money

“I said to my son, ‘Come, come!’ I screamed, ‘It’s money! I have to call the Lord,'” she said. In exemplary honesty, Ms. Umodu therefore contacted those who had given her the sofa to inform them of their find and return the money to them. The Family who emptied the house of a recently deceased relative replied that they did not know about the existence and origin of this money. But to thank Ms. Umodu, they gave her more than $2000, enough to buy the new refrigerator, she needed.”I didn’t expect a penny,” she assured.
