Unusual: Sharks gobble a dolphin in front of stunned swimmers

The attack resulted in the closure of several beaches.

On this summer Saturday morning, the atmosphere was festive at this beach in Sydney, Australia. But after a horror scene, several beaches were closed and a surf festival was suspended…

The Telegraph reports how two sharks attacked a dolphin off Shelly Beach. Drone footage appeared to show at least two sharks chasing a dolphin that appeared to be struggling to visibly move due to injuries to its tail and sides.

The dolphin ended up stranding as close to the beach as possible, where it quickly died. Rescue workers then evacuated bathers from the water and closed two beaches.

The Manly Open surfing competition was even suspended following these facts that traumatized the witnesses. These witnesses, who were questioned by local media, all conjured up a scene of horror.

The wild and sometimes brutal side of nature was on display near Manly this morning when a shark mauled a dolphin.

The attack closed surrounding beaches for the day, forcing one of Australia’s biggest surfing carnivals to cancel its event. @WesternWilson9 #9News pic.twitter.com/JfrDpUOvbj
