Unusual: Fraud and computer errors… The driver had lost 321 points on his license without him

A bug in the system allowed a motorist living in Spain to stage a scam that allowed him to lose 321 points on his driving license… with no consequences for the latter. That’s how he did it.

The Guardia Civil has put an end to an unusual scam against traffic offences. armenian nationality, a biker from the Valencia region had set up a system that allowed him to pay the fines of others. He also used a loophole in the system to accumulate hundreds of offenses with no consequences for the validity of his driver’s license.

The 28-year-old had posted advertising on the internet in which he undertook to plead guilty to the traffic offenses committed by the others, in return for payment of between 75 and 200 euros per accepted point, in addition to the amount of the fine.

To put it simply, an abusive driver asked the young Armenian to report guilty instead. He claimed to have been driving the vehicle that day and received a fine.

An inexplicable anomaly

But the scam could have lasted for several months due to a bug in the system. He accumulated the offenses against the same person with no consequences for his driver’s license. And when Guardia Civil officials stumbled upon the case of the Valencia youngster, they couldn’t believe their eyes. This has been removed 321 points on his driver’s license… Or the equivalent of that will lose thirty drivers in their lives. All without going through any proceedings to have his license revoked.

The Guardia Civil cannot explain why the normal procedure for these offenses did not work. “We all ask ourselves that question,” a source familiar with the matter told El País newspaper.

Note that individuals were not the only ones hiring the services of this man, who also took on fines for company vehicles he had never worked in.

The Spanish authorities say that 91 people are currently being investigated for similar crimes.
