Unusual. A drunk policeman falls asleep in the street and loses documents about 400 people Le Dauphiné Libéré

A Japanese police officer drank too much, fell asleep on the street and lost investigation documents with the personal details of around 400 people, including a suspect, the police and local media said.

The 49-year-old officer from the Hyogo region in western Japan lost a bag containing the documents in question between 11pm Friday night and 5am Saturday, a local police official said.

Those documents included the names and addresses of people involved in criminal investigations, he said, without giving further details.

On the way home he fell asleep on the street

According to major Japanese media, citing police officers, the officer in question went out for drinks with colleagues and fell asleep on the street on the way home.

When he woke up near a train station, he did not find the bag and documents containing personal information of around 400 people, including a suspect, media said.

This isn’t the first time officials have found themselves embarrassed after drinking binges. In June, authorities in the city of Amagasaki in the same region said a businessman had lost a bag containing a USB stick containing the personal information of all 460,000 residents after going for a drink along the way and falling asleep on his back. However, the USB stick was found by the municipality the day after the case became known.
