Union entity Tico reiterates support for Social Security reps

In a statement, the working groups, which are members of the trade union movement, say that participants in the General Assembly discussed the issue of the resolution convening the CCSS Executive Board to elect a trade union representative.

He emphasizes that in this case he not only reaffirms the appointment of Martha Rodríguez as his representative before this body, but also pledged his support for the legal process being carried out in defense of the Political Constitution, the Constitution of the CCSS and the Costa Rican democracy.

The General Assembly of the Costa Rican Trade Union Movement, held in the Carmen Lyra Auditorium of the Costa Rican Education Workers’ Union, also supported the action before national and international organizations in defense of trade union freedom, human rights and democracy.

On December 7, 2022, Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves announced the Governing Council’s decision to suspend and criminally denounce five members of the Executive Board of the CCSS and their former Executive President Álvaro Ramos, whom he had sacked last September for supporting the salary adjustment of the employees of this company.

The government alerted her to an alleged conflict of interest, among other things, by voting to have the ban lifted and a retrospective salary increase applied, as well as breaches of duty for neglecting an actuarial valuation and technical criteria.

In this regard, on the 9th, an internal audit requested by the Executive President of the CCSS, Marta Esquivel, established that “it is not possible for the College to terminate the administrative act if, by hiring it, the generality of the people and is the only competent body which may adopt this act”.

With this, Internal Audit confirms that the above-mentioned conflict of interest did not exist in a vote on salary adjustments in the company, the main reason for the Governing Council to suspend it.

Likewise, since December 13, the Union unit has been awaiting a response from Chamber IV on an appeal for Amparo against the Governing Council’s decision to suspend the directors of the CCSS, José Luis Loría, Mariza de los Ángeles Jiménez, Martha Rodríguez and Carlos Salazar and Jorge Arturo Hernandez.
