Türk had a meeting with the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation, Lorenzo Caraffi, with whom he discussed the situation in Colombia and the importance of humanitarian action in this South American nation.

The senior UN official began an official two-day mission to Colombia on Tuesday at the invitation of the government.

During his visit, which ends tomorrow, he will also meet government authorities.

Türk will attend an event in Bogotá organized by Swedish Ambassador Helena Storm to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Throughout 2023, the High Commissioner and the United Nations Office for Human Rights will attend and participate in events to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration and the 30th anniversary of the Vienna Declaration and Program of Action establishing the United Nations have led Office for Human Rights.

At the end of his stay in Colombia, the High Commissioner will hold a press conference in that capital.
