The Zaporizhia nuclear power plant cannot be returned to Ukraine because Kyiv cannot guarantee its safety, Russian Senate Vice-President Konstantin Kozachev told the Interfax agency today. “The only way to ensure the safety of the nuclear power plant is to have 100% control of its activity. Given the special military operation, the Ukrainian authorities are by definition incapable of providing this type of control,” Kosachyov said. “Given the ongoing, highly irresponsible attacks by Ukrainian forces on the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, there is no doubt that an unauthorized person’s access to the nuclear power plant site risks further provocation,” he added. “So no and no again,” concluded Kozachev when asked whether the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant could be returned to Ukraine.
