According to local authorities, the town of Slavutych, north of the Ukrainian capital Kiev, is surrounded by Russian troops.

According to the statement, the attackers are located just outside the city limits. Workers involved in the maintenance of the decommissioned Chernobyl nuclear power plant live in Sławutycz. There, in 1986, there was a super crash.

Ukrainian checkpoints in Sławutycz under fire

On Friday evening, Russian forces fired on Ukrainian checkpoints in Slavutych, informed Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), citing information from the Ukrainian nuclear supervision authority. According to Kiev, this threatens “the homes and families of the operating personnel who ensure nuclear and radioactive safety” at the former nuclear power plant, as well as further staff turnover.
