Two Cubans join the leadership of the Christian Democratic Organization

The Christian Democratic Organization of America (ODCA) renewed this May 13th in Mexico at its XXIII. congress his directive for the next three years, which now includes two Cubans with a long history of fighting for human rights.

It’s about him dr Eduardo Cardet, Honorary Vice President-Elect for Cuba, Leader of the Christian Liberation Movement (MCL); and Yaxys Cires as Deputy Vice President in the Caribbean, leader of the Cuban Christian Democratic Party.

The new directive of the Organization of Christian Humanist Inspiration, which groups more than thirty political parties in the region, will be headed by Mexican MP Mariana Gómez del Campo, who serves as International Affairs Secretary of the National Action Party (PAN) of Mexico.

As part of the congress, various seminars were held on current regional and world political issues, attended by personalities such as former Colombian President Andrés Pastrana, President of the International Democratic Center (IDC); Marko Cortés, President of the PAN of Mexico; as well as other internationally active politicians and board members of the German Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

Andrés Hernández, President of the Christian Democratic Party of Cuba and Vice-President of the IDC, was one of the speakers on the podium on the current and future challenges of the ODCA, who, during his participation, expressed the need to respond to the cultural and societal changes in the different countries , in order to constantly renew the electoral offer of the Christian Democratic parties.

Hernandez noticed that too Disenchantment with democracy rife in many countries, a problem exploited by populist politicians to try to destroy them. It is also important for the leader of the Cuban Christian Democrats to renew the commitment and efforts of the ODCA in favor of the democratization of Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela, for which he has proposed new initiatives.

Cires congratulated the new members of the ODCA board and emphasized that Dr. Cardet “is an example of courage”.
