Twitter Bird Statue Sells For $100,000 As Memorabilia From Elon Musk Auctions Company

The statue was sold for a whopping sum of US$100,000 (81.25,000 rupees).

Twitter finally completed an auction to get rid of some of the excess office supplies in its San Francisco office. From memorabilia, electronics and furniture to kitchen accessories, more than 600 items were placed in the auction block. The most expensive item sold during the tech giant’s sell-off was a statue of the platform’s famous bird logo. The statue was sold late Tuesday morning for a whopping sum of $100,000 (Rs. 81.25,000), the BBC reported. The identity of the buyer is unknown.

The bidding for the four-foot-tall statue ended at $100,000, according to Heritage Global Partners, the corporate asset disposal company overseeing the auction. However, the company declined to comment or share any information about the buyers or bid prices.

The second most expensive item was a 10-foot neon Twitter bird display that cost $40,000 (3.21.8240.).

Other notable items include three kegerators for storing beer, a dehydrator and a pizza oven, which each sold for over $10,000 (Rs. 815,233), according to Forbes. A 190 cm (6 foot) planter in the shape of an @ symbol ended up at just under $15,000 (Rs. 12,21,990), while a custom conference table made from reclaimed wood cost just under $10,500 (Rs. 8,55,393).

Thousands of protective face masks and several soundproof phone booths have been sold for over $4,000. Bidding started at $25 to $50 for all items.

Ever since Elon Musk officially took control of Twitter in late October 2022, the microblogging site has been scrambling to cut costs. According to the BBC, this sale comes as Mr Musk slimmed down Twitter following his purchase of the company last year. However, organizers have said the sale is not intended to shore up Twitter’s finances. A representative from Heritage Global Partners told Fortune magazine last month that “this auction has nothing to do with their financial condition.”

Nick Dove, a rep for HGP, told Fortune, “They sold for 44 billion and we sell some chairs and desks and computers pay the mountain there, then they’re an idiot.”
