Tunnel megasite: It gets complicated for users

Users of the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel are facing their worst rush hour since construction began this morning after a brief lull in the first two days.

“We can say that it’s busier this morning,” analyzes Daniel Evans, columnist at Radio Circulation.

Wait times for access to the Highway 25 Tunnel are longer, particularly for drivers coming from the east on the Metropolitan Highway.

“To take the tunnel south, we had a time of 45 minutes. We didn’t have that today.”

Painful from the east

Motorists who want to take the tunnel when coming from east Montreal and Repentigny are the ones “who enjoy it the most,” Mr. Evans points out.

“I can tell you that the dissatisfaction of these listeners is great. Just on the 40 West ramp to get to 25 South is at least 20 minutes.

The patience of these road users is put to the test by three funnel effects as they approach from the city freeway.

No problem, says the MTQ

For its part, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility (MTQ) does not consider this day any more difficult than the others.

“At the moment things are going quite well on the side of the tunnel. […] There is nothing special to report,” said Sarah Bensadoun, spokeswoman for the MTQ, around 7:30 a.m.

Yesterday, MTQ indicated that today would be a real test for Montreal traffic, as the first two days were tempered by major obstacles in the tunnel, Halloween and an educational day.
