Toby Anstis is defending himself for calling the police after getting stuck on the London Underground

Heart Dance radio presenter Toby Anstis was forced to defend himself on Tuesday after he called police following his “terrible” journey on the London Underground.

After taking to Twitter to tell his listeners he was calling emergency services about an “aggressive passenger” and possibly being late for his show, a follower accused him of “wanting to be taken into the studio with lights flashing.”

The 52-year-old DJ, who was trapped on the “freezing” train for over an hour, hit back, saying: “It was nothing like that, it was pitch black, no power and one female passenger intimidated”.

Fighting back: Heart Dance radio presenter Toby Anstis was forced to defend himself on Tuesday after he called police following his “terrible” journey on the London Underground

Toby hosts a Heart Dance Breakfast weekdays from 7am to 10am and Heart’s Club Classics on Friday nights from 7pm to 11pm.

One unimpressed follower wrote: “Toby Anstis thinks he’s better than everyone else so he’s calling the police to come in with blue lights flashing.”

While another added: “What no chauffeur?”.

Toby angrily replied: “It wasn’t like that, it was pitch black, no electricity and one passenger was intimidated while we were all stuck on a tube. How about you think before you tweet your total crap!’.

The television personality claimed the problem stemmed from a signaling issue, with train bosses “struggling to wake up an engineer.”

Several subway lines were hit by major delays on Tuesday after temperatures fell to just above freezing.

Web have reached out to London Police and TFL for comment.

Speaking to his 41,700 Instagram followers from a dark train, Toby said: “Good morning I’m currently stuck on a tube, have been here for 30 minutes about 20 meters from another station where I’ve changed into another train could have risen.

“But apparently they can’t find a technician to fix the signal and now all the lines are down, it’s freezing.

“Thank you TFL for making life so wonderful at 7am! Apologies to the Heart Dance listeners, I’m a little late.

He also took to Twitter to express his frustration at the delays, initially writing at 6.08am: “Currently stuck on a train on the #piccadillyline which has been stationary for 15 minutes so far.

‘No announcement of what’s going on, typical crappy communication from @tfl and the driver?! wtf goes on?! We all have jobs to do! Sorry @heartdance listeners if I’m late.’

And then he wrote: “There is NO service on the #piccadillyline hello! @tfl the train hasn’t been running for 20 minutes!!! You can’t hear what the driver is saying?!!’

In response to TFL’s tweets, Toby added: “Check your screens and information, have you been sitting here for over 20 minutes and can’t get out?!!!”

And then: ‘Please @tfl, can you just pull the train into Barons Court so we can get on another line? Pathetic service!’

He received another response from Transport For London, to which he replied: “It’s affecting everyone! And that’s simply because you can’t get a technician to fix the signal!’

Toby then tweeted: “Good morning @heartdance family, as @tfl is holding us on a tube on the #piccadillyline in London I can’t be there for the start of my radio show at 7am. Apparently they are trying to wake up an engineer to fix a signal. You couldn’t invent it! #London’.

Speaking once again directly to the transport service operators on social media, Toby explained: “I hear you’re still trying to wake an engineer to fix the damn signal while we’re all stuck on a train. And now all the lights have gone out?!! I will report this and demand compensation!’

Shortly after, he wrote: “Please @tfl get this damn train moving! The lights are off and it’s freezing! This is totally unacceptable now!!!’

And then: ‘Come stuck for an hour!!! On a freezing cold, limp subway in London. It’s -3, no electricity, no heating, no announcement, absolutely inexcusable from you at @tfl !’

Then Toby went one step further and tagged the Metropolitan Police. “Ok I’m really serious now @tfl,” Toby wrote.

“We’re fucking freezing on this train. You’re stuck between Hammersmith and Barons Ct, you gotta get us out of there fast. I am also calling the police as there are now aggressive people causing problems. @metpoliceuk @tfl’.

Shortly after, he informed fans and told them he would be live on Heart Dance at 8am.

When a follower asked if he was okay after the incident, Toby said: “Only! Got me a bit shaken up, I won’t lie! Terrible of @tfl and the London Underground! I hope you have a better start to the day, Gary.”

Finally, Toby was an hour late for work – and while some fans were genuinely concerned for Toby’s safety, others thought he was trying to use his fame to get prioritized by TFL and the Met Police.

The radio host has appeared on numerous TV shows over the years, including I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! 2006 alongside Jason Donovan, Myleene Klass and Dean Gaffney.
