The Tennessee Titans have found their new general manager. The team will hire San Francisco 49ers general manager Ran Carthon as GM. CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones confirms this.

Carthon joined the 49ers in 2017 as the Director of Pro Staff. His NFL start began on the field as a player with the Indianapolis Colts from 2004-2006. His leadership role began in 2008 as a pro scout for the Atlanta Falcons. Carthon remained with the team until 2011 before becoming the Rams’ director of player personnel from 2012-16. Since then he has been with San Francisco.

Carthon’s departure gives the 49ers third-round equalizer picks in the 2023 and 2024 NFL drafts. In 2020, the NFL introduced a new rule that encourages teams to develop minority coaches and executives and offer compensation if they move to another franchise.

If star defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans leaves for a head coaching job, as is widely expected, the 49ers would be lining up for additional picks.

That year, the 49ers advanced to the Divisional Round despite a rotating set of quarterbacks. The team started with Trey Lance before he retired for the season. They then switched to Jimmy Garoppolo, but a broken foot put “Mr. Irrelevant” Brock Purdy, the last player selected in the 2022 NFL Draft.

The 49ers convincingly defeated the Seattle Seahawks in the wildcard round and then meet the Dallas Cowboys, who defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Monday night.
