Ryan Tannehill missed five games this season and when he played, the Titans were only 6-6. He threw his fewest touchdown passes since his 2012 rookie season.

The Titans must make a decision at the position.

Though coach Mike Vrabel endorses Tannehill as his quarterback, the quarterback has a $36.6 million cap hit and the Titans could save $18 million by cutting him.

New General Manager Ran Carthon said at his inaugural press conference that he needed some time to evaluate Tannehill.

“I don’t think that’s fair at this point,” Carthon said of ESPN’s Turron Davenport. “We are still evaluating the squad. Ryan was great here. He has won many soccer games. I’m looking forward to winning football games. But I need more time to evaluate and make these decisions.”

Tannehill, who turns 35 in July, said he “definitely” still has “some good years left”.

His last two seasons have been mediocre, with a 17-11 record, 34 touchdowns, 20 interceptions and a 91.5 passer rating. In his defense, the Titans’ receiving corps, which has suffered from AJ Brown’s offseason trade, and offensive line injuries have played a big part in the 80 sacks he’s taken over the past two seasons.

“This is a quarterback-driven league,” Carthon said. “Every day people get hired and fired for this position. I would like to spend more time evaluating this position, so I will have my own opinion. Then Mike and I will consult and we will find out.”
