It is deceptive: in the first few days there is an additional feeling of relaxation from the supposed extra hour of sleep, soon the body gets used to the new schedule and everything returns to normal. Daylight Saving Time ends and Americans will have to turn their clocks back an hour early on Sunday, November 6th. Normally, at 2 a.m., smartphones and digital devices connected to the internet switch over automatically.

The time change in the United States, or Daylight Saving Time (DST, for the English acronym) has remained in effect, although for decades there has been the option of suppressing this action to also leave a fixed time throughout the year, as some countries already do have undertaken. The theory goes that the goal of moving forward an hour in the summer contributes to efforts to conserve electricity by making better use of natural daylight. However, this has not been verified and there is no certainty as to the effectiveness of this measure.

In which US states does daylight saving time end?

Of all the states that make up the American Union, there are only two that are exempt from the time change in summer. The states of Hawaii and Arizona have a fixed time throughout the year.

It was 1960 when Congress set the start and end dates for daylight saving time across the country. However, since it was not a federal reform, during that decade some states chose not to follow the measure for commercial and geographic reasons, such as the state of Arizona. Indiana was also exempt from DST regulations until 2006, when the state decided to change its laws.

Typically, Daylight Saving Time in the United States ends on the first Sunday in November and begins again on the second weekend in March. On March 12, 2023, when the winter timetable ends, the clocks will have to be put back again.

As in other countries, the North American nation initially chose to advance its clocks in the summer to take advantage of the hours of natural light and conserve energy. The stories of how this initiative came about are very diverse, but always revolve around this purpose. One of the most popular in this country touches the hero Benjamin Franklin, who since the 18th century thought about reducing the consumption of candles by advancing the time of day.
