Tiger Woods joins Two Under on day three of the Genesis Invitational as the star rediscovers his form after having to wait to find out if he made the cut after poor light

Tiger Woods has switched to two-unders on day three of the Genesis Invitational after officially making the cut earlier Saturday.

The American star needed some help but made the cut at the event despite shooting a three over par 74 on his second round on Friday.

Poor light halted the game and Woods had to wait until all of the second round results came in on Saturday morning to seal his fate.

After being confirmed for the weekend, Woods teeed off alongside Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Matthias Schwab on Saturday afternoon and made a strong start.

He rediscovered the form he had shown on opening day when he switched to two-under after seven holes with the famous putter raise on the course.

Woods went out quickly Thursday to post a two-under 69 in his first round of competition in seven months, but found Friday’s round more difficult and slipped to a one-over where he played for most of the evening the cutting line flirted.

American Max Homa secured the solo lead with a three-under-68 on Friday, taking him to -10 overall.

For Woods, meanwhile, Riviera’s attrition seemed to be taking its toll as he bogeyed three of his last four holes to slide down the leaderboard.

Woods hit the fairways again on Friday in front of an enthusiastic crowd, along with playing partners Rory McIlroy, who came at six-under T-7, and Justin Thomas, T-33 at one-under.

The 15-time major winner is the tournament host of the long-running event at Riviera Country Club, where he made his PGA Tour debut in 1992 as a 16-year-old amateur but never won it as a pro.

Following the Genesis Invitational, Woods is hoping to head to the Players’ Championship at TPC Sawgrass next month before returning to Augusta for the first major of the year – The Masters.

Woods only managed nine laps in 2022 due to complications related to the limb-threatening injuries he sustained in his car accident the previous year.

This ultimately meant that the 47-year-old had to withdraw from the Hero World Challenge in December due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

But later that month he played alongside his son Charlie in the two-round PNC Championship, where players are allowed to use buggies.
