This year we are renovating

This year we are renovating!

It’s decided this year finally tackle the bathroom makeover that really needs it. Here is a step-by-step guide you need to follow to plan your project properly.

DEFINE YOUR PRIORITIES : We determine the improvements we want to make in our home by targeting the irritants, the existing elements we value and want to keep, and the structural constraints. Then we list our desires and set our priorities.

CREATING A BUDGET : We evaluate the amount we are willing to invest in our renovations and plan for financing with our financial institution. At this stage, we visit some specialty stores to find out the prices of the items we want.

DRAW THE PLANS : If you’re taking care of the project yourself, it’s time to create a scalable plan.

FIND YOUR PROFESSIONALS : Given the current scarcity, it is better to book the contractor, designer or architect early. To find them, contact your entourage or local shops. Before the project management is handed over to a contractor, at least three very detailed budget proposals are submitted and their references checked. A work plan is drawn up with him.

GET PERMISSIONS : You can apply for the necessary permits from your municipality. We also notify our insurer.

TO GO SHOPPING : We do all the shopping to avoid delays in delivery at the time of work.

decoration advice

A successful project requires that we have invested as much time in preparation as in implementation. The more we are ready, the more we limit the inconveniences.

▸ A wooden or ceramic floor imitating wood provides a warm finish.

▸ If space permits, two sinks are practical, especially if the whole family shares the bathroom.

▸ On trend: decorative wall coverings that give the impression of a large stone slab.

▸ A small ottoman adds a decorative touch, especially on this model with a knitted finish.

A good investment?

We never get back 100% of the money invested in a renovation, especially in the current real estate context.

  • The kitchen and the bathroom are the rooms where we relax the most, as long as we choose materials that match the value of our home.
  • Bold choices (colorful tiles, wallpaper, etc.) tend to make the home less appealing to some buyers.
  • If we divide, it is preferable not to reduce the number of bedrooms in the house.
  • You have to keep in mind that children grow up quickly, that our needs change.
