Sherbooke Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who allegedly tried to steal a high-end Audi last week.

The suspect, who police say is between the ages of 30 and 50, is said to have entered the door of an apartment building in the Bertrand Fabi sector of Sherbrooke with a key on January 11. Surveillance cameras showed that the Audi A4 parked in the driveway started blinking at the same time.

Only, according to the plaintiff, the thief would have preferred to try to get out with a more valuable Audi Q7, which was also parked in the yard.

“Once at the door of the residence, he was standing with his back to the door and taped his backpack to it, suggesting he was trying to pick up or amplify the signal from a nearby key,” the Sherbrooke Police Department said his press release.

The suspect reportedly failed in his attempt and left the scene in a small SUV that could have been the equivalent of a Subaru Crosstrek or XV Crosstrek. The Caucasian male is of average height, wearing a dark coat and backpack, and wearing white-soled shoes.

This event comes at a time when the SPS is noticing an increase in vehicle thefts on its territory, while at least 18 vehicles have been stolen from their owners since last December.
